As a business owner, I love to hear other entrepreneurs’ business-origin stories. What inspired them to take the leap? Was it one big aha moment or a series of life events? My own introduction to entrepreneurship came from the compassion fatigue and burnout that ended my career as a criminal-defense attorney, which motivated me to open my own wellness business. Now, I bridge the legal and health & wellness professions by advising health & wellness business owners on the law and educating attorneys about wellness.
Transforming Pain into Passion
I particularly enjoy talking with business owners who have turned their own lemons into lemonade. Now you get a chance to meet the wonderful entrepreneurs I’ve met!
This is the second post in an ongoing series about entrepreneurs who have turned a personal setback into an inspired business idea. Know anyone like that? Submit a comment below with the name of someone for the next post in this series.
Meet Rachel Scholten
From the time she was eighteen months old, Rachel Scholten faced serious health challenges. Diagnosed with congestive heart failure as a toddler, she spent has spent a large part of her life in and out of the hospital. She received her first defibrillator at the age of 19. Seven years later Rachel received a heart transplant.
Celebrate the Grand Opening of Kneeling Cat Pilates
Rachel first tried Pilates when her doctors recommended it as part of her rehabilitation from transplant surgery. She fell in love with the practice. Now, Rachel is certified in Polestar Pilates, and focuses on working with those in rehabilitation in private or semi-private sessions at her studio in Sherman Hill. She also works with people who have multiple sclerosis, neurological conditions, or have experienced a stroke.
Rachel’s business, Kneeling Cat Pilates, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, May 12, 10AM-2PM at 733 19th Street, Unit A, Des Moines. Come join the fun!
